Wytheville Community College Choir, VA
The Wytheville Community College Choir, an esteemed ensemble known for its dedication to musical excellence and community engagement, has established itself as a significant cultural presence in Southwest Virginia. Founded in 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Charlie White, WCC President (retired 2015) and Dr. Rhonda Catron-Wood, WCC Vice President (retired 2025) and Cynthia Jackson, the choir initially aimed to bring together passionate singers and share the joy of music with the local community.
Throughout its history, the WCC Choir has performed a diverse repertoire, including classical, contemporary, and world music, showcasing the rich tapestry of vocal artistry. The choir has performed several major choral compositions by Handel, Vivaldi, Rutter, Gjeilo and the Virginia premiere of Jubilate Deo by Dan Forrest. In 2025, the choir performed Concert Suite from Creation by Dan Forrest and will present Selections from Creation in their May 2026 concerts. The choir's members, drawn from various backgrounds, each contribute their unique talents and perspectives, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances its musical offerings.
The WCC Choir regularly participates in local events, and collaborative concerts, strengthening its ties with the community and promoting the arts in Wytheville and the surrounding counties. The choir has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. The choir has been featured on local television stations in both performances and news articles.
Under the skilled direction of Cynthia Jackson, the choir has continued to evolve, embracing new musical challenges and expanding its repertoire. The commitment to artistic growth and community service has solidified the WCC Choir's reputation as a beacon of musical excellence.
