Viola Dacus

Dr. Viola Dacus is an Assistant Professor and the Voice Area Coordinator for the Department of Music. Dr. Dacus joined MC’s faculty in 2001 and currently teaches Vocal Diction, Song Literature I & II, and all levels of Applied Voice.

Dr. Dacus, mezzo-soprano, has performed regionally as a recitalist, as well as in opera and oratorio venues with such organizations as Baton Rouge Opera, Ohio Light Opera, Mississippi Opera, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, and members of the Louisiana Philharmonic. She has sung in New York's Carnegie Hall in performances of Verdi's Requiem and two performances of Dan Forrest's Requiem for the Living (including the New York premiere), and the New York premiere of Kim Andre Arnesen's Requiem. She has sung concerts in Israel, Jordan, and Greece in addition to concerts throughout the southeastern U.S.

Dr. Dacus is also a published writer who enjoys gardening and home improvement projects.
