Taylor Scott Davis

Composer-in-Residence

Hailed by the Wall Street Journal as penning “dreamy vocal lines” that “overlap and intensify to stunning effect”, Taylor Scott Davis’ “inspired pen” (Opera Today) is much in demand by vocal groups and orchestras around the globe.

Taylor has written and arranged for groups including the grammy-winning choir Conspirare and renowned vocal ensemble Voces8, to chamber ensembles such as the English Chamber Orchestra and symphony orchestras, often conducting his own performances with players from the top London orchestras and Fort Worth, Dallas, and Houston symphony orchestras. His music has been performed throughout the USA, Europe, South America, and South Africa. Recent projects such as his six new carol arrangements for choir and orchestra (commissioned by the Voces8 foundation and premiered in digital festival Live from London Christmas) have been viewed and received acclaim in over 75 countries and across the media.  O Come, O Come Emmanuel received over a quarter of a million views/listens in under a month, with Silent Night coming a close second, receiving its world premiere on Classic FM radio and online.

Taylor’s work has been called “lush and artful” by the Choral Journal; Opera Today has praised it as “soothing and luxuriant” and seen and heard as “fabulously inventive”. From “full filmic blockbuster technicolour” to ravaging, soulful counter melodies and harmonies, Taylor’s music has a unique and timely voice.

Most recent projects include a new opera based on text by Mark Twain, a collection of new Christmas suites for Bradley Ellingboe and Dr. Jennaya Robison of the University of Missouri, Kansas City, alongside performances and album releases of his six new carols. There was also the Magnificat (commissioned by St John’s United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico), and a Migrant’s Mass which was inspired by the image of a particularly visceral drowning in the ongoing global immigration crisis.
