Brandywine Valley Chorale
BRANDYWINE VALLEY CHORALE was founded in June 2007 by a group of local area musicians, arts supporters, and friends. The BVC was created to add the art and beauty of choral music to the fine arts repertoire that is available in the Brandywine Valley region.
Today, approximately 40-50 auditioned members strong, this fine group of individuals perform semi-annually throughout the lovely Brandywine Valley, including Unionville, West Chester, Kennett Square, and Wilmington.
The Chorale is a mixed choir singing choral works composed for SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) vocal ranges. The organization consists of individuals ages 18 and older who share a commitment to excellence, a passion for music, and a desire to serve their community.
The BVC is fortunate to have the wonderful and growing support of area businesses, organizations, and individuals who make the expression of choral art possible. Just as the Brandywine Valley Region is rooted in rich beauty and culture, the Chorale reflects its surroundings by performing fine music and building the area’s tradition as an exceptional center for performing arts.
Brandywine Valley Chorale's conductor, Jason Throne received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education at Temple University. While teaching in Baltimore, he studied conducting under the direction of Edward Polochick, the Director of the Baltimore Symphony Chorus, and performed with the Baltimore Symphony and Chamber Chorus. After receiving his Masters in Choral Conducting at Temple University, Mr. Throne was Apprentice and Program Editor with Berkshire Choral International (in Great Barrington, Massachusetts), where he lectured on the choral music of Brahms and Bach, as well as music technology.
Mr. Throne has worked with renowned conductors including Robert Page, Joseph Flummerfelt, Vance George, Marvin Hamlisch, John Rutter and David Zinman. As Assistant Conductor of the Bucks County Choral Society, he performed and conducted the group during their tour of Estonia and Russia. Mr. Throne is Choral Director at Unionville High School where he leads five different award-winning choirs. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in June 2010, with the UHS Chorale, performing in the New York City premiere of a work by Grammy Award-winning artist and conductor, Eric Whitacre.
A champion of new music, Mr. Throne strongly believes in supporting modern composers - most recently, masterminding concert showcases and workshops with Norway’s Ola Gjeilo, and popular English virtuoso, Will Todd. He has also commissioned many local composers, including: Thomas Lloyd, David Bennett Thomas, and John Conahan. More notably, for BVC’s tenth anniversary, he enterprised a new composition from acclaimed Scandinavian maestro, Kim André Arnesen.
