Helen Steel

Advancement and Development Consultant

Helen is delighted to be combining her love of choral singing with her professional skills as a communications and event management professional by joining the Vox Anima London team.

Helen’s passion for music was fostered during her teenage years within the Kent Music system. She was an inaugural member of the Kent County Junior Choir and later the Kent Youth Singers, and at the age of just 11 was fortunate enough to perform in Notre Dame Cathedral with the choir.

Today, Helen sings with the Vox Anima Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr James Meaders and assists with managing the choir’s social media channels. She also has first-hand experience of singing in a Vox Anima London concert with choirs from America, Spain and across the UK.

Helen is also an accomplished amateur instrumentalist and was the leader of the Kent Youth Wind Orchestra and, more recently, the award-winning Maidstone Wind Symphony. As a clarinettist she has been fortunate to tour with amateur orchestras to Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Italy.

Professionally, Helen graduated from the University of Birmingham (BA French & German), before training as a journalist. She spent several years as a local newspaper reporter and news editor before moving to a sports communications, engagement and events role linked to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Helen is now working as a freelance consultant and is excited to connect with choirs across the world, to support the Vox Anima London team in bringing life to music and music to life for even more singers.
